"I get lots of harmonica questions, so I'll attempt to answer some of them here. I'll be adding more info soon, and will be offering a harmonica instructional CD in the near future as well, so check back often. At this time, I am available to teach private harmonica lessons, so drop me a line if you're interested. Many people ask what kind of harmonicas I use, so I'll try and answer this question for now. I use the Hohner Golden Melody harmonicas more than anything else, but I do purchase a few others from time to time, mainly just to keep tabs on the competition. If you've ever seen me play live, you'll notice the many, many Golden Melodies in my case with colorful combs, thanks to Randy Sandoval at Genesis Harmonicas (www.genesisharmonicas.net) and Chris Reynolds (www.builderofstuff.com). In my collection, you'll also find a few Huangs, Suzukis, Seydels, Tombo Ultimos, Lee Oskars, Weltmeisters, Bushmans and a few others, including the legendary Boomerang Harmonica, which was reissued a few years ago as a limited quantity of 1000 pieces. Needless to say, I've played just about every brand there is in search for the perfect harp, but I always come back to the Golden Melody. To me, nothing beats the sweet, mellow tone of the Golden Melodies. They've been my harp of choice for almost 20 years now. Though I'm not a customizer by any means, I usually emboss, gap, and retune my harps to my own personal preferences, which you can hear in some of the clips here on the site. I tune the 7 draw note down a half step on most of my harps to achieve a unique, bluesy flavor on the higher register of the harp. I also use customized Hohner Golden Melodies by Joe Spiers. For some really great custom harps, check out Joe Spiers at www.spiersharmonicas.com. I can't even begin to say enough great things about Joe's harps. They're worth every penny of what they cost.

If you have a harmonica question, send me an e-mail. I'd love to hear from you, and I'm always glad to help a fellow harmonica player."
